Pokémon TCG 30th Celebration: what's inside, and is it worth buying?

What's in the Pokémon TCG 30th Celebration Set, and Is It Worth Buying?

Pokémon TCG: 30th Celebration is the anniversary set for the Pokémon Trading Card Game's 30th birthday, and it releases worldwide on September 16, 2026. Every card in it is foil, including the Basic Energy. Every booster pack includes one of 30 different Pikachu cards. There is no booster box: you get packs through Elite Trainer Boxes, collections, bundles and tins. If you collect, love Pikachu or are buying a gift, it's an easy yes. If you play competitive Standard or want to buy sealed product to hold, read the "Is it worth buying?" section first.

When does 30th Celebration come out?

The first wave releases on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, and it's the first Pokémon TCG expansion to launch on the same day worldwide. More products follow in October, November and December (full list below). The set celebrates 30 years since the card game first launched in Japan in October 1996.

What's in a 30th Celebration booster pack?

Pokémon TCG 30th Celebration booster pack with Pikachu

Each pack has five foil cards, including one Pikachu rare, plus one foil Basic Energy card and a code card for Pokémon TCG Live. Every card is foil and carries the 30th anniversary logo, so there are no non-holo commons in this set. Loose booster packs aren't sold on their own: every pack comes inside one of the products listed below.

What are the special cards in 30th Celebration?

The English set has 199 cards: 128 main-set cards (including the 30 Pikachu rares), 33 secret rares, 30 Classic Collection cards and 8 Basic Energy.

  • Pikachu rares. There are 30 Pikachu cards numbered 01/30 to 30/30, each with its own illustration and holofoil pattern. Every pack has one, so a full set of 30 is a realistic goal.
  • Futuristic rares. This is a brand-new rarity with bright lighting and 3D-style graphics. The first ones shown are Mew and Mewtwo, illustrated by the artist YOSHIROTTEN, who also created the set's key art.
  • Illustration rares. Revealed so far: Espeon, Umbreon, Lapras, Drifloon, Zorua and Lycanroc.
  • New Pokémon ex. Sylveon ex and Greninja ex.
  • Classic Collection. 30 reprints of famous cards from Base Set to today, with a gold sparkle border, including Base Set Charizard and Pikachu & Zekrom-GX. These reprints are not legal in the Standard format.

Is 30th Celebration worth buying?

It depends on why you're buying.

  • Collectors: yes. An all-foil set with a Pikachu in every pack, a new rarity and Classic Collection reprints is made for binders. Chasing all 30 Pikachu rares is a fun, reachable goal.
  • Gift buyers: yes. Every pack has a Pikachu, so even a small Knock Out Collection, 2-Pack Blister or Mini Tin gets a guaranteed recognizable card. The Elite Trainer Box is the best-value gift for a new fan.
  • Standard players: maybe. Sylveon ex, Greninja ex and the Battle Decks are made for play, but the Classic Collection reprints aren't Standard legal. Check which cards your deck needs before buying a lot of packs. It's usually cheaper to buy the singles.
  • Buying sealed to hold: go slowly. Special sets without a booster box tend to sell out fast at launch and restock later, and a set this big has a long print run. No one can promise a sealed product will go up in value. Our guide to the best time to buy sealed Pokémon products covers how prices usually move after release.

Which 30th Celebration product should you buy first?

For most people, the Elite Trainer Box: nine packs, the full-art Nidorina promo, and sleeves and Energy you'll actually use. If you just want to open a few packs, the Booster Bundle (6 packs) arrives October 2 and has no accessories to pay for. If you want the Classic Collection chase, wait for the Ultra-Premium Collection on November 6, the only product so far confirmed to include a Classic Collection pack, with three Classic Collection cards inside.
